Project Description
Completed in 2022, The Urban Refinery delivered a two-stage redevelopment at 5 Hillcrest Avenue, bringing new life to an established Hillcrest site.
Stage one involved relocating and revitalising the original 90-year-old bungalow. The home was carefully repositioned on the site and extensively modernised with a new kitchen, two new bathrooms, and a reoriented living space that now flows seamlessly onto a north-facing courtyard. The original timber floors were restored, celebrating the character and history accumulated over generations.
Stage two introduced three highly specified standalone townhouses, each offering 3 bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms and a covered carport. Brick cladding anchors the ground floor, while aluminium cladding above provides a sharp modern contrast. Thoughtfully designed interiors, modern finishes and strong indoor–outdoor connections to private north-facing courtyards created homes that balance practicality with architectural presence.
Together, the two stages showcase The Urban Refinery’s commitment to design-led development, blending heritage reinvigoration with contemporary medium-density living.
